Why not spruce it up?

Of all the crafts I have been working hard on this one was probably the easiest!! When I originally bought Emma's lettering it was the BIGGEST pain to hang so I was trying to come up with ideas of how to make it more creative, and thats when I decided to frame them and add my new obsession: BURLAP!

Things you'll need:

  • a frame that fits your letters in length and width (i went with a skinner frame to make her name "pop" but its purely a personal preference)
  • letters for your child's name (mine were bought from pottery barn but any letters from Michael's or any art store will be fine once painted)
  • glue gun
  • burlap- any color depending on what you want, just make sure its of better quality and doesn't shred easily or look "see through"
  • glue gun
  • staple gun (optional)

The frame i used was on sale at hobby lobby for $10, remember when looking for your frame try not to focus on an actual "picture" frame because you can always take whatever is in the frame out! Also, knowing I was going to put thick letters in i didn't plan on putting the glass back in so getting a frame without glass isn't a bad idea. This is the frame I got

Depending on the frame you got will depict your next step. If you got an actually picture frame it should be easy to empty the frame out. Because mine was an "artwork" frame I had to rip the back paper off and remove lots of staples (easily done with a normal staple remover) do your best to maintain what was already in the frame (cardboard or foam piece) because you will be using it to wrap your burlap around

Once the foam piece is removed measure a piece of burlap to wrap it in. Fortunately my foam was white on one side for the face up side, If yours isn't and it will show through the burlap you can always get a piece of cardboard/thin foam and cut it to fit the frame. Once you have cut the burlap to fit use a glue gun to pull the edges tight and glue it along the back.

I used only one layer of burlap because 2 was too thick. When you are finished place it back into the frame before adding your lettering to make sure they are in the right place. Even though my letters were thick wood they stuck on just fine with a glue gun. next just add whatever decorative pieces to match the room or look you're going for, or just have the letters alone. I added my famous burlap rosettes to mine :) for instructions to make the rosettes check out by wreath blog.

when you are finished adding your decorations and letters put the backing back on or I used a staple gun to put it back in place (mine didn't come with a backing)
